Health Promotion Services Graduate Assistant Application

The HPS Graduate Assistant is responsible for preparing and delivering health and wellness presentations to Texas State students in residence halls, student organizations and athletic teams. You would also plan and implement campus health and wellness outreach events.

Job Duties: 
  • Present health and wellness presentations for classes, residence halls, athletes, student organizations and community organizations (public schools, youth programs).
  • Develop, revise and update health and wellness presentations. 
  • Plan and implement health & wellness outreach events for the Texas State campus and community organizations.                                                                
  • Attend HPS and Student Health Center staff meetings and function as a paraprofessional staff member. 
Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education before start date
  • Enrollment in a graduate degree program at Texas State University
  • Enrollment in nine graduate hours each long semester and maintenance of a 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrated excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals
  • Strong public speaking and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate degree of confidentiality
  • Possess basic computer skills
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Applicants majoring in Health Education, Public Health, Health Psychology, Health Professions, Psychology, Student Affairs in Higher Education, or Sociology. 
  • Experience delivering presentations and/or public speaking.
  • Experience developing, coordinating and implementing campus outreach programs.
Terms of Employment:
  • Average of 20 hours worked per week (unless otherwise approved by department director)
  •  Start date: August 7th (negotiable)
  • 12-month appointment with opportunity to renew for a second year.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends.
  • No paid vacation, sick leave, or university-observed holidays
  • Programs may require travel to Texas State University Round Rock campus.
Salary
  • Monthly Stipend received at the beginning of each month
  • Average of $1317/monthly (first year of employment)
  • Average of $1377/monthly (second year of employment)
